Squamish and Whistler Air Tours

The phenomenal terrain in the Squamish –Whistler area can perhaps only best be appreciated from the air.  Carved by volcanic activity and glaciers only a few millennia ago, extinct volcanoes, soaring coastal mountains, glacier filled alpine valleys, and sheer rock faces hover over lush green forests, pristine lakes, and the island dotted ocean inlet of Howe Sound.

If you want to see all of the best that the area has to offer from the best seat possible, then an air tour from the Squamish Airport is definitely up for consideration.

The companies based out of the airport have a great variety of flight packages on offer.  Some of the most popular to consider are:

Garibaldi Park – Its volcanic past on display, features like Opal Cone, Black Tusk, The Barrier, and the deep blue Garibaldi Lake surround the prominent extinct Mount Garibaldi Volcano.  Garibaldi Park is one of the most popular hiking destinations on the west coast, but the massive park can best be appreciated from the air.  Whether by plane or helicopter, a feast of sights is in store as your pilot explains the pre-historic forces that formed this spectacular region.

Whistler Resort – You could drive the Highway, find parking, and walk through the crowded streets to see Whistler.  But to really see it in style, an air tour can show you the mountain ranges on the way, the famous ski slopes, (possibly occupied by wildlife like bears in the summer months), and the village area from the comfort of the air.

Glacier Air Tours: Glacier Landings and Glacier top picnics are just a couple of the other creative options available from companies in the area.

Heli-skiing: Black Tusk Helicopters specializes in providing personalized and customized heliskiing adventures and experiences for groups of 4 to 12.  With extensive knowledge and experience of the deep coastal snow-pack, Black Tusk will seek out only the best and most suited terrain for your ability and current conditions.

And of course this is Squamish, so there is also the unique option of heli-mountainbiking – a slightly better way to get a 6000 ft decent into your day.

Air Charters:  At certain times of the year, air charters are also available from some of the area companies between Squamish, Whistler, Vancouver, Victoria, and Nanaimo.

Some of the companies also offer different levels of air training so that you can obtain or upgrade your license.
