Discover Squamish before … The announcement that Vancouver and Whistler will provide the venues for the 2010 Winter Olympics has focused exceptional and unprecedented attention on the Squamish area, which lies half way between the host cities. Waterfront Development Project Situated at the end of the Howe Sound and surrounded by mountains, forest and rivers, more and more people and organizations are discovering the beauty, convenience, and recreational opportunities of Squamish, not to mention the commercial, business and real estate potential. Tourism visits to the area and the town of Squamish are starting to grow at an unprecedented rate. The interest in the area has spurred a $600 million improvement project for scenic Highway 99. The safety and traffic flow improvements are already well underway and will be completed by 2009. Several major projects are already slated for Squamish over the next few years: The Sea to Sky Adventure Centre is nearing completion and will act as an anchor and a catalyst to the growing Tourism industry in Squamish. A major private University: The Sea to Sky University, which will host 1500 international students, is now under construction.
